- Tip #1: If there is a list of attendees public before attending, so some research on the people you think would make a great connection. That way when you meet them, you have some interesting questions to ask!
- Tip #2: Have an Ideal Client in mind. Keep in mind the person or company you REALLY want to work with–that is, your Idea Client! This means the person or company profile in mind with who would be PERFECT for your current offer. For example, I recently went to an event knowing that I wanted to attract a service-based business owner who needed QuickBooks help. And I found one! So if you’re armed with an Ideal Client in mind and solution for them, it could make for a very successful event.
- Tip #3: Have business cards. Even if you don’t have a website or cool business name picked out, that’s OK! Have a business card on hand anyway. Make sure that it includes your name, what you do, and a way to reach you.
- Tip #4: As you collect cards from other business owners, write a little fun fact about that person on their card. You can also star them on the card if they want to connect with you later to discuss your products/services.
- Tip #5: Follow up with a thank you email within 24 hours. Even if they weren’t specifically interested in your product or service, a simple note goes a long way. Also, that person knows about 500 other people- they may refer you to someone else! Especially if you prove to be genuine, skilled and thoughtful.
